So many questions.
Was Amirah genetically healthy?
Did she have something wrong with her?
Would we find out why she died?
Did the total loss of her amniotic fluid cause cord compression and asphyxiation? (Anoxic definition, containing no oxygen; hypoxic definition, caused by not enough oxygen being available to the blood and body tissues)
Did GBS reach her and cause chorioamniotis?
Did the Hibiclens chemical reach her and cause respiratory failure?
Did any bacteria infect her after all those vaginal exams?
Did she aspirate meconium?
Would the pathologist be able to determine her time of death?
We received a preliminary report within hours, but it would be several weeks before we would have a conclusive report.
Medical records and midwifery rules were being thoroughly researched and compared, so at this point we still didn’t know so many things. There was a lot to figure out and we were in a heavy fog of grief. But with the help of loved ones, we continued to move forward in our pursuit of the truth.
We will find out what happened, Amirah Rayne.
We will pursue every path that leads to the truth of your death.
We won’t be deterred. Nothing short of our own deaths will stop us.
